Press: Multnomah (July 3, 2006)
Author Name:Means, James E.

Trust the God Who Allows THIS? The last thing you want to do when crushed with indescribable pain and suffering is turn to the very God who allows it all to happen.
What right does He have, especially now, to ask for your loyalty, your obedience, your love? When cancer took his wife and left him despairing alone, James Means unwillingly had to ask God the same questions facing you.
A Tearful Celebration is the candid, pull-no-punches account of his struggle to understand God's ways and to stand firm in the face of incalculable loss.
This new edition of a 1986 Gold Medallion finalist will lead you to the place you most truly long to be: right with God and secure in Him again.

  •     Wonderful book.
  •     This is probably the single most helpful and honest volume on grief and loss in the English language. The author was for many years Professor of Pastoral Theology at Denver Seminary.
  •     Excellent book for those grieving
  •     My 18 year old son passed away unexpectedly May 17, 2009 of an unknown heart issue. This book has been the BEST BOOK I have read since his passing. I CAN"T BELIVE how it has helped me. I am so very thankful I found this book by chance and picked it up, thinking I have so many books and haven't completed many since my son's death. Yet I competed this book in 1 day, I couldn't let it down and had to highlight most of the book because it spoke volumes to me. It's the best book I have read that talks into my soul and knows exactly how I feel and what I am thinking. I will buy many more copies and give it to whom ever I find that needs help getting over a loved ones death.
  •     At the recommendation of a friend, I bought this book for a relative who had just lost his wife to cancer. A week later, my relative called and told me that a friend who had lost a spouse a year ago had told him that only one book was really helpful--this one. So he read it, and called me twice to thank me, once during the reading and once at the end. He had read other books, but this is the one by someone who had "been there" and that he found particularly helpful. He told me he will reread some chapters repeatedly in the weeks ahead. The hard cover format also makes it good for gift giving to a person in need.
  •     This book is for the broken-hearted who need to know God is good and His purpose for them is good. I have grieved the loss of my husband and most recently my dear Mother and this...
  •     This is a very helpful book for those suffering with the impending or actual loss of a love one, depression or any variety of trial.
  •     Having lost my wife to cancer in her 40's, similar to the author, I found this to be the best most direct and important grief aid I've read. I've read over 10 books
  •     This book contains the sad journey of a Christian pastor who lost his first wife when their 3 children were small. I've read a number of books on suffering and loss and this one rivals C.S. Lewis' "A Grief Observed". This book is very well written and would be helpful for believers and unbelievers alike.
  •     The best there is on the subject of grief and loss.
