  •     I taught Multicultural Education for pre-service teachers at the college level, and I used this book for fifteen years. The book is excellent, as is the research that Mr. Banks put into it. It's interesting how we Caucasians brush shoulders day after day with persons of color, but we have no idea about their histories. Sadder still, we take too lightly their claims of racism.Mr. Banks' goal in this book is to give readers an overview of the major racial groups in America. It was amazing to see how my teacher education students' perspectives changed when we read his book in our classes. Many ethnic groups' stories were shocking, as our history books when we grew up seldom shed light on their struggles, let alone the injustices that they suffered. Given the fact that racism has not gone away today, the messages in this book are more relevant than ever. "Teaching Strategies for Ethnic Studies" is an excellent choice for teacher education students, as well as the general public.
  •     Banks, continuing to write about multicultural education and studies with this book, hit a wall! Concepts covered in the book were basic to the point of a lack of given...

  •     I took a class with James Banks. He is a rather remarkable man and this book is a great guide to ethical questions and implications for teachers as well as strategies for teaching Ethnic Studies. The contents of this book can be transferred to any age group, just be aware of your school's requirements and the maturity of your classroom when using certain language and historical references.
