  •     The content and material on the book is great and a great followup would be basic linear graphing by chris mcmullen but its poorly written on has drawing and i do not like how its been treated.
  •     I have been a Special Ed teacher for many years, and have used this book when teaching math in many schools and applications. It assumes nothing, but presents important concepts one at a time, building with each lesson. It is just as the title implies: Basic. No frills, no visually confusing text or page layout. I've used this book when teaching for the GED, MCAS (Massachusetts state testing), and with ED and LD populations. If you can't get a teacher's edition, don't sweat it. The concepts are presented easy enough that even "non-math" people can pick up rather easily. "Basic Geometry" is a good follow up- but don't try it without going through this book first.
  •     Pages were ripped out of the book. I was very disappointed. By the time I realized it i thought it was too late to return it.
  •     I've dipped in and out of this text, and it's been terrific. In particular, I found that the book's word problems worked well in a "Singapore Math" class for 4th and 5th graders.I've found that it's easy to track down copies of the corresponding Teacher's Edition if you know the ISBN number. My copy of the student edition has ISBN number: 0-395-98002-X. Copyrights listed are 1988, 1990, 1993, and 2000, although you don't need to worry about the dates. It's the ISBN number that matters.I have the corresponding Teacher's Edition, with copyrights 1988, 1990, 1993, and 2000.ISBN for the Teacher's edition: 0-395-63747-3.If you're homeschooling, afterschooling, or self-teaching, you don't need any other supplementary materials.Catherine Johnson -
