  •     I regret buying this product because this Basic Hebrew by Pimsleur is just a replica of the Conversational Hebrew by Pimsleur. I bought the two products, this Basic Hebrew and the Conversational Hebrew--because I wanted to learn more- and the packaging was different-only to find out that this Basic Hebrew was just a copy of the Conversational Hebrew---the two are the same but packaged differently--Again, they just the same! The Conversational Hebrew just has two extra CDS. I feel ripped off by Amazon--they advertised both-- and I had the impression that one would get more from both. No! They both have the same content! Please buy the Conversational Hebrew by Pimseleur instead b/c it has two extra CDs.
  •     It is repetitive speaking. Once said in English, then repeated in Hebrew. I am on lesson 5 in the course. I listen on way to work and home. There is no literature, just CD's. I had to repeat several lessons to get the words to stick. But I am learning phrases/greetings/etc. The language is harder than I expected because of certain sounds in Hebrew we do not speak in English. Almost like trying to speak while choking. The course gets harder has you progress. Once you learn a word, the way you would use it in a sentence the sound of the word may change because it runs into another word and part of the first word is not used. Difficult for me to grasp, so I have to keep repeating the lesson before I proceed. For no more than I paid for it approx $25 USD it is worth it and fun to learn something different. Hebrew is read right to left but you don't have to worry about that, but in the sense phrasing of sentences seems back-word also compared to English.
  •     I tried 'Instant Immersion' software - pretty much a disaster. 'Living Israeli Hebrew' is just wonderful -- for reading and writing, which I actually am learning because I like the program so much. Figure I'll be able to read a few signs, anyhow. But for speaking, gotta go with Pimsleur. I never used this system before -- learned pidgin Japanese with "Learn in Your Car" system which was fine -- but I'm a Pimsleur convert, now.The words are pronounced with great clarity, brief explanations in English of key issues or cultural idioms are provided, and the mix of little one-item quizzes as you go gives unexpected confidence. The pacing is excellent, and the way vocabulary and phrases build carefully upon previous lessons is wonderfully reinforcing.Unfortunately, I gather there is only 'basic' and the whole'level I.' Be awfully nice to be able to get Level I in stages 1-2-3.
  •     ok
  •     very great and fast shipping A++++ Thank you so much!!
  •     Excellent basic course to get you started. I'm playing in car everyday and remembering what I taught.
  •     I bought this about a month before traveling to Israel. It was great fun to do in the car. I was able to transfer it to my laptop for the plane, although that took some doing.
  •     Now to find the time to really study the language
  •     item was as described, timely shipping.
  •     When I was working for Hewlett-Packard, I was working with Guy Peleg, a software engineer located in Israel, and now the owner of Maklee Corporation. When he was visiting our office in Nashua, NH, for the first time, he graciously took me to lunch, and as this was the first time I had ever had lunch with an Israeli national, I asked him what language was spoken there. As I grew up in New York, I knew of Hebrew and Yiddish. Once when I was visiting a relative and his new wife, I described something as "schlock work", and he laughed and said, "My wife has no idea what that means!" In any case, I was curious what exactly was spoken on the streets of Tel Aviv, and so when Guy responded with, "Hebrew", I decided to get this basic course to try to learn some of it on my own, besides already being able to sing the song, "Hava Nagila".
  •     Good value
  •     I have Pimsleur for French but my boyfriend and his friends as well as family all speak Hebrew so I bought this one too: because it works. I understand some Hebrew but can't make sentences on my own; the first lesson was amazing and I can't wait to do the second today. I saw a review for this product and someone said they wish they could see the words...well that would be hard unless you can read Hebrew and if that were the case then you wouldn't need this program.Pimsleur breaks down every syllable of each word so I promise it is not hard. Trust me, this company knows what they are doing.
  •     . I have tried to learn Spanish, Arabic, and Hebrew with Pimsleur and must say: "I did not have the success I expected.". Psychologists tell us the more senses that we use in learning, the better it is absorbed, retained, and recalled. Perhaps I am a visual person and need book work, writing, as well as repetition and listening.. I must warn that sometimes when you buy this product, they automatically bill you month after month. Be certain to read your purchase agreement and cancel your next order, then order another when needed at your convenience to avoid the repetitive ordering scam..
  •     This is a wonderful way to learn how to speak a new language. The lessons or units (as the narrator says) start off with simple conversations which are then broken down into words and those words are then broken down into sounds. I found myself picking up the new sounds and words very quickly. As you progress through the units, the conversations that are presented get a little longer and a bit more complex. The pace of each unit was excellent. There was enough time to repeat what the speaker said, but not so much that the flow of the conversation was lost.I should say that I did study Hebrew many years ago for a short time, so some of the units were a review of sorts, rather than something brand new.The only thing with which I had an issue was the fact that there is no printed material with this set of CDs. Some of the sounds in Hebrew can be difficult to understand without having something written to verify the spelling of certain words. Luckily, I am around people who speak Hebrew, so I was able to consult them for clarification of some words though any good English/Hebrew dictionary should be able to help you if use the Pimsleur course.I have also used the German version of this course, and it was also very good for basic understanding of a new language.
  •     Got it fast. So excited.
  •     Great system, I used this on my commute to work. I finished the cds and now I want to get the complete set. I was getting through a lesson every few days.
