  •     I love this campaign setting! The whole world has the feel of something that could actually develop in a magical setting. The races, from the thieving Amphikin to the mighty Krakadons to the mysterious Mahaultae and the native humans (the Neiyar), all feel as if they really would have developed alongside each other. The monsters seem to be monstrous versions of real creatures, like Flesh-Cutter Ants (giant versions of the harmless leaf-cutter ants that use humanoid flesh instead of leaves to cultivate the special moss they need to survive). The Corpse-Eater Lily is a semi-intelligent variant of the corpse lily, a real tropical plant that attracts flys to pollinate its large flowers by emitting a scent like rotting meat. The corpse-eater lily can't naturally produce the scent, so it compensates by attacking creatures, strangling them, and leaving the carcasses to rot at its base. Creepy! The book also introduces something called Hearth Magic, a type of magic that is purchased with skill points, and can be used by anyone who has learned the rituals. Hearth Magic rituals can be quite powerful, but that power is balanced out by the fact that they are expensive to purchase (costing anywhere from 1-10 skill points PER ritual). This setting is definately a nice change of pace from the typical campaign setting fare.
