About the Author

Valerie Alia is Reader in Media Ethics and Culture in the University of Sunderland School of Arts, Design, Media and Culture; Senior Associate of the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge; and Co-Research Director of the Institute of Communication Ethics. 
She has more than 20 years of experience as a journalist and an academic in Britain, Canada, and the United States.
