  •     I came to know Louis Marinelli through my own activist work and was looking forward to reading his book when it came out. Once I received it, I read it cover to cover in one sitting. It was honest, very detail oriented, and rather invigorating. He provided a great deal of insight into the operations of the National Organization for Marriage during their summer tour as well as his own personal reflections, inner conflicts, and final transformation from marriage equality opponent to awesome supporter. I would recommend this to anyone.
  •     The only reason it gets two stars and not one is that it is an interesting story. Very few people are able to change on this issue when presented with emotional or logical reasoning, and I am impressed with Louis "evolution". I abhor the National Organization for Marriage as an organization that knowingly lies in order to write bigotry into the law. That said...the story is not told in a coherent fashion. Reading it is more like finding an eight year olds diary than it is bestseller. I understand that it is a memoir, but given the controversial nature of the topic, his unique perspective and the fact that he blogs for a living it is astounding that the book is so poorly written. There is no plot, no moral, only an account of event after event, many of which could have been omitted entirely without the reader noticing. I love memoirs, but they rarely include events and details that do not tie into the whole and contribute to the story of how the person came to be...the majority of this book seems to consist of such events.I was eager for a book like this, and let down that it utterly failed to resonate with the reader.
