In a game played on and off the field, only one of them will emerge the winner.
Armed with an uncanny ability for evaluating football talent, a dogged determination to succeed in a man's world, and an empty bank account, Rachel McCormick agrees to help struggling wide receiver Derek Ramsey get his game back.
Rachel believes Derek, her former best friend and lover, knows the truth behind the points-shaving scandal which ruined her father.
She vows to expose the secret even if it destroys Derek in the process.
When Derek's coach suggests sex as an excellent tension reliever the night before a game, Rachel takes one for the team.
The next day, Derek has the best performance of his not-so illustrious pro football career.
As Derek and Rachel rack up nights in bed and other places, the team racks up wins on the field.
Rachel is torn between her loyalty to her father and her growing affection for Derek.
Now it's fourth and goal, one second left on the clock.
Their hearts are on the line.
Do they trust each other enough to go for the long bomb or do they get dropped for a loss? Author's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content and graphic language.
This book contains minor edits made by the author.

  •     The Seattle Lumberjack series follows football players as they find their own. This is the story of Derek and Rachel.Derek and Rachel have a history - former best friends and lovers. When she agrees to be a caretaker for his home while he's away, they are once again thrown together. Rachel needs the job and the money so she will do just about anything. This is the story of their love and how they find each other again after a long time apart.
  •     This was the first book I've read from this author, but it came highly recommended. I love football & sports romances in general and was excited about reading it. I didn't hate it, but for me the dialogue was weak and it was difficult to really connect with the characters. There are few real conversations between the 2 main characters and then many, many, many sex scenes. Through most of the book, you forget about Rachel's primary objective of being there. Also, there are a ton of really cheesy football metaphors through the entire course of the book - during sex scenes, during normal conversations, when the characters are reflecting. I also didn't love that every characters name was shortened during most of the dialogue - "Dare, Rae, Ty, Ry". I really did enjoy Tyler's character and am planning to read the 2nd book in the series to learn more about him. I will say, the book is steamy. If that's what you're really looking for, this is the book for you!
  •     I love (good) football softies and the Lumberjack series is most definitely a good series!! I highly recommend all 3 books. The guys are great and their better halves are better!! These guys are hilarious!! Their families all come together and their stories are heartwarming.
  •     A real story behind the sport. Bring the tissues. Believable characters, well paced action easy to follow the sport. Amazing.
  •     I've read Jami Davenport's series before, but I think I may have just fallen in love with the Seattle Lumberjacks.
  •     What if you could change the past? What if you could go on from the past? What if the past didn't matter?
  •     I'm new to this author and series, but it definitely didn't disappoint! I read this book in just one sitting and it was totally worth it! I can't to read more from this author!
  •     To begin this story brought me to tears. The characters grab your heart and draw you to them. I feel more in love with one of the secondary characters than the main.
  •     I love sports novels, and this one was no exception. Derek and Rachel had been friends for a long time, even though they grew apart due to misguided relationship issues.
  •     What a really good book set in the sport of football. I enjoyed the story of Rachel and Derek. Highly recommend
  •     I found this book when it was recommended because if another book I read. I picked it up not knowing what to expect, and was surprised at how much I loved the book. The story takes you through a journey with two characters who have history. One is trying to deal with betrayal and the other is just trying to keep their career. Using each other to get what they need, leads to so much more.In this book you're introduced to characters who you'll see later in the series, events that continue through the books, and a story that will leave you raw, emotional, rooting for the underdog, and cheering in the end.
  •     Best read in a long time!!!! Really really loved this book!!! Looking forward to Tyler's book!!!!
  •     Good read
  •     This is a well written, football themed romance. Fan of the sport or not, you will like this story. While the sexual connection between Rachel and Derek is quite hot, it is advisable for only adults to appreciate and is not good for young readers.Since the book is a mix of romance and football, you will appreciate the right balance of both to the story. It offered depth of character as well as the right amount of drama. Not a lot of laugh out loud moments, but there were a few tear-jerking moments to savor.Definitely recommendable to an adult audience to appreciate and I look forward to the other books in the series. Each book is capable of standing alone, so there is no confusion to how the story unfolds. Having read Down by Contact (book 3) prior to reading this one, I can tell you that it is the truth. There were some parts that felt it dragged or was crammed with filler, but all in all a decent book to read. I did feel that there were a few parts where the story could have been tightened up a bit more, but you will not be all that disappointed.
  •     I started off reading Ms Davenport's hockey series, but then I moved on to football. I loved Rachel and Tyler, they were just so good together, I good fight then a good (hot) roll in the hay. It helped and it caused problems that they had a history together, Rachel was supposed to be finding out who shaved points in a championship game back in college, her father lost his job and his reputation over it but she and her brother don't think he did it, he was covering for either Tyler the team quarterback, or his cousin Derek. So Rachel is working for Derek, hoping to find out who did the point shaving and ruined her father's career. But she can't work that close with him without giving in to the chemistry that buzzes around them every time they are together.I don't like books when the plot is so cut and dried that nothing is a surprise. This was not one of those books, there were a few things that were unknown as you went along and it kept my interest. I'll be picking up the rest of the series once I get some$$er and Derick, they were just so good together, I good fight then a good (hot) roll in the hay. •     Full disclosure, I'm both a football fan and an avid reader. With Fourth and Goal Jami Davenport has created a great read--a page turner that blends two of my passions. Derek and Rachel, the main characters, are well-defined, eminently likeable (whether you're a sports fan or not), and easy to root for as they rise to every challenge to meet their individual goals. They've both got game, but as sparks fly between them, can they move past the weekend rendezvous five years ago that destroyed their friendship and trust one another enough to take their new relationship to the goal line?Fourth and Goal is a fast-paced, highly sensual read that packs an emotionally satisfying punch while tackling complex issues all readers can relate to. Five stars!
  •     I loved this book and the author. This s the first book of hers I've read but I can't wait to read more.
