  •     I love the "Understanding" series for most law school subjects. For Income Tax, I found it very helpful. This was one of the few books I actually kept after the course was over. The only thing I would recommend is to be weary of the year the book was published. The basic tax concepts won't change, but everything else in tax does. Any numbers (i.e. exemption amount of $300) in that year may be different in years follow (i.e. exemption amount now $500). Always reference the current code--and not an outdated supplement--for specific numbers.
