  •     As a nutritionist, mother of four, author, and home economist, I love The Organic Nanny. Barbara Rodriguez has done a wonderful job sharing her experience and expertise on...
  •     Organic.Natural.Healthy. These are words to live by, especially if you're raising a family. But all too often, the demands on our lives seem to leave little room for creating a healthy lifestyle which includes organic foods. Where will I find the time to shop and cook every meal, you ask? Well, what if you had help, in the guise of a nanny who could guide you through all the steps necessary to transform your life? Impossible, you say? Not so, when you reach for a copy of this book.Ms. Rodriguez has worked as a nanny for over 20 years, helping families find a new lease on life with L.O.V.E. which means adapting a Local, Organic, Vegetable-Centric, Environmentally conscious way of living. This goes not just for food, but for cleaning products, natural remedies and learning to live with an "attitude of gratitude" every single day. In a step-by-step process you will learn just what to eliminate from your daily diet such as sugar, trans-fats and white flour and how to replace these things with healthier choices which include naturally sweetened foods and whole grains. Although these changes may seem daunting at first, have no fear; Rodriguez's warm, approachable style will make you feel as though she is right beside you, guiding you through your metamorphosis, every step of the way.Bursting with tips on how to make the transition from toxic to terrific, this marvelous little tome includes stories which highlight the author's vast knowledge and experience as an Organic Nanny, as well as healthy home-remedies, great gardening tips and fabulous recipes. Learn how to prepare some of your kid's favorite dishes like Homemade French Fries and Pizza with good-for-them ingredients that will not only help wean them off the unhealthy stuff but will keep them coming back for more of the good stuff. In addition, changing the way your children eat can have a huge impact on their behavioral problems, sleep issues and common illnesses and Rodriguez not only highlights these issues but she illustrates how simple solutions like changing our diets and our environment can have enormous impact on our quality of life. Not only will this incredible book change the way you look at the health of your children, but it will also transform the way you look at your own health. And in the end, what could be better than that?

  •     It's hard not to love this book or this author. Barbara is so passionate about raising our children well and she knows what she's talking about!
  •     The purpose of this book is to help guide you to a more natural way of eating. The author teaches you how to wean your family off of processed foods and eliminate artificial sweeteners. She shows us how to incorporate real foods and whole grains into even the busiest of lifestyles. She encourages people to avoid factory farmed meats and toxin laden dairy products. Beyond food, she also discusses healing your family with natural remedies and avoiding toxic chemicals in your beauty routine. There are numerous case studies scattered throughout the book and while many of them might be a bit extreme there ARE people who have children that only eat pop-tarts and chocolate milk. That idea is frightening and the author is quick to point out that YOU (the adult!) are the one responsible for bringing food into your home. She encourages parents to make smarter choices when it comes to shopping and change gradually so as to not shock your children completely.I thought the discussion of food addiction was particularly interesting. Apparently, junk food can be addictive and scientists have actually proven that with animal models! The author encourages people to analyze their diets and figure out which areas need to be changed. She says all you need is L.O.V.E. (Local , Organic, Vegetable-centric, vegetarian, or vegan (your choice), and Environmentally conscious) I think that is a great summary of what our diets should be made of! And she provides common sense, practical ways to achieve a more natural diet. There are m any tips, tricks and recipe ideas to help transition your kids from fast food to real food. She tells you what to avoid if you are buying premade products (transfats, artificial flavors, and many others) and then gives you healthy snack suggestions like whole grain cookies and flavored rice cakes. The Organic Nanny is a wonderful resource for anyone who is concerned about the foods their child is eating. The author teaches you how to make realistic choices for your family that will help you eat healthier without your children rebelling completely.Disclaimer: I was provided one copy of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest opinion.
  •     We all hope for help in the world of food, kids, and many of life's perplexing, child-raising questions.
  •     I read this book from beginning to end, and found the book to be very insightful and thoughtful. It gave excellent advice on how to slowly transition your child's current diet...
  •     The Organic Nanny is an excellent resource for parents. Many of us are juggling so many things in our lives, and though we may know , in theory, all the right things to do to...
  •     I appreciate that this book doesn't encourage people to take giant steps towards changing their family's eating habits. While I try very hard to prepare healthy meals, I am the wife of a very picky eater and the mom to two teenagers. I have no control over what the kids eat at friend's houses or at school. A huge, drastic change to what I offer them to eat here will simply result in them eating more meals and more junk food out with their friends. Thankfully, The Organic Nanny offers small steps to help you phase unhealthy foods out slowly and introduce new foods. There are a number of recipes throughout that will help you replace foods you may traditionally eat with healthier alternatives like homemade French fries, smoothies, tofu fingers and tacos. If you're interested in making steps toward a healthier diet, The Organic Nanny will certainly start you on your way. The recommendations are easy to understand and you can move through the changes at your and your family's pace. The recipes included make the process easier as well! Review copy provided by the author.
