  •     Bleh...these vampires are way too misogynistic for my taste. Always stating she should be controlled and do exactly as they say - seemingly for not other reason than she is a woman. Quotes like: "She needs a tighter leash" -- and -- "“She is crying.” (the response ...) “A woman’s ploy to soften me. It will not work.” -- these are just a few examples. The vampires, including the hero constantly refer to her as "the woman". Yuck. And the heroine is completely helpless. A supposed huntress in all but "job title" only, the situation as written by this author makes her pathetic in all but attitude. She's also not very bright - constantly making judgements based solely on pure conjecture with no proof. I need more than that from heroes and heroines. This is not a romantic or a likeable story for me. I don't like the way these characters are written at all. Yes, vampires are way stronger than humans. But usually the hero's emotions for the heroine or at least the situation they find themselves in, mitigate this. Or the heroine has some ability or talent that allows her to push back. With this couple, he has all the power and all she can do is sputter. She tries to escape but is never successful. The only way she'll acquire any "power" is if the hero gives it to her - too unbalanced for me. (I'm talking about the power to fight back, to defend herself, etc.) This heroine is all talk and no bite. The hero looks down on her too much to be likeable (although in this case, it's almost understandable, but that only begs the question, why in hell would he love her?) To make matters worse - she thinks (with no proof mind you) that he is a killer, he keeps her prisoner and within a few minutes of him taking her, her nipples tighten at telepathically learning he finds her attractive - immediately giving away her telepathy which would be to her advantage to keep hidden. She's just weak. And this coming from a reader who's never one to quibble at instant love scenarios. I'm only half way through the book, OK I skimmed to the middle and will only skim more (OK, skip widely) to the end to see how it finishes. (Because the hero was not abusive and the grammar is decent - two stars instead of just one).
  •     Terry Spear is a wonderful paranormal writer. I highly recommend her books including the Highland wolf's and her Seals books. Each book has it's own mystery and intrigue as well as solid love stories between the main characters.
  •     Tezra Campbell is an investigator for the Hunter Council with an agenda of her own. While keeping her telepathic gift well hidden, she searches for the vampire who killed her parents. The vampire takes great pleasure in tormenting her within the mist, never revealing his true identity. Only her sister knows for sure who the killer is, but unfortunately she has not spoken since that fateful night ten years ago.Daemon, originally from Scotland is now the prince of the American Vampire Clans. He fears Tezra's investigation will lead to her death and cause a problem between the Vampire clans and the Hunter Council. He takes control of the situation, placing Tezra under his protection. Only Tezra has a mind of her own and no Vampire Prince is going to stand in her way. Their battles turn passionate, but Daemon refuses to take a life mate and Tezra has no wish to lose her independence. However, their convictions waver at every turn.As the two try to uncover who murdered Tezra's parents, a new mystery is uncovered, leading them to believe there is a bigger story to why Tezra's parents were targeted in the first place.I loved this story. Tezra and Daemon's passion in bed and out are intense, keeping you glued to the pages and wanting to know what will happen next. Her secondary characters add to the story, making the vampire world come to life.Ms. Spear has a way with words, creating a paranormal mystery sure to hold you spellbound as the twist and turns of the tale unfold. A must read!Reviewed by: Karen Michelle Nutt, authorPNR Paranormal Reviews
